Howie brings to client engagements over 35 years of business and information technology industry experience. He has held executive management positions in IBM Corporation and Neoware Systems (a 125 employee, $60M, NASDAQ listed company), and he has been a principal in Personal Systems Incorporated, a boutique custom software organization focusing on small businesses. Howie’s industry experience is with customers in the technology, retail, process, manufacturing, and software industry. His key executive management positions at IBM included: marketing, sales, software product management and software vendor relationships; and at Neoware, Howie was the Executive Vice President for Marketing with responsibilities for marketing, business development, professional services, customer support and fee based training.
Howie has consulted with many software companies, helping them develop marketing strategies, execute go-to-market plans and achieve revenue objectives. He has assisted many small and medium businesses in effectively using technology to help their employees and principals be more effective, reducing the time and cost managing their business, and increasing the information available to make key decisions. Howie has been frequently quoted in trade press articles regarding the software industry and thin clients. He has appeared on numerous industry panels. Howie has appeared as an expert witness for IBM regarding the taxability of software.
As IBM’s Group Director, Solution Developer Organization, Howie created IBM’s strategy for working with the software industry, he established critical alliances with the largest software vendors, provided staffed technical support centers geographically located throughout the US, provided online technical support, ran conferences for over 3500 attendees, developed marketing and sales programs which sold over $60M in software vendor revenue, and established over 1000 software vendor relationships. Howie was Software Management Director, IBM United States, where he was responsible for $5B in annual software sales. As IBM’s Director for Thin Client Marketing, Howie was responsible for the world wide marketing of IBM’s thin client brand, establishing IBM as the most recognized brand in that market. Howie then spearheaded the formation of the IBM-Neoware alliance.
Howie is a past member of the Board of Governors of the Information Technology Association of America, he is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Software Association. Howie holds a BS from Syracuse University.
