Steve has a broad range of professional experience in the information processing industry, spanning over 35 years as a technology vendor, a customer and a professional consultant. With a focus on the use of information technology to improve business performance and a keen sense of sales and marketing, Steve has consistently added significant value to the business vision of his clients.
His IBM career focused on sales, marketing and business development. After selling in a new business territory, he served as National Account Manager for a major international conglomerate. The balance of Steve's career was primarily in the retail industry where he developed expertise in the use of technology to address business issues faced by companies in this industry. Steve implemented the first IBM POS scanning system in a US supermarket, and managed IBM's effort to help this major regional supermarket chain achieve significant business improvements across the company with information technology. He led IBM’s initial consulting and marketing initiatives to deliver IBM POS technology and other store system solutions to European customers. Steve also led IBM’s partnership effort with a key software vendor where he formulated the operating vision, managed the evolution of the business relationship with their CEO, and coordinated IBM marketing and sales activity with clients nationwide. Steve achieved an outstanding sales record at IBM that included 15 One Hundred Percent Clubs, 3 Golden Circles, Store Systems Salesman of the Year, and New Manager of the Year awards.
Following a successful career at IBM, Steve became CIO of Fresh Fields Supermarkets, an entrepreneurial healthy food supermarket company, where he gained a first-hand, customer’s perspective of the IT industry. As CIO, he developed the company’s strategic IT plan and managed the IT operation of this innovative niche retailer.
In the early 1990’s Steve joined Ernst & Young (E&Y) as a Senior Manager in their retail group and subsequently joined the retail consulting practice at Arthur Andersen. As a senior member of these firms’ retail teams, he led a variety of projects on business strategy, business process improvement and information technology solutions. While at E&Y, Steve was asked to develop and direct the retail industry practice for a new consulting division of E&Y that focused on the entrepreneurial market. Throughout his career, Steve has consulted for large and small enterprises across a broad range of applications, including NIKE Retail, Pathmark Supermarkets, Rite Aid Drug, and many other retailers. Most recently, he was asked to join an international software firm based in France and served as Project Director for the implementation of an enterprise wide merchandising solution at a major US regional food retailer.
Steve is a graduate of Rutgers University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Center for Advancement in Cancer Education, a non-profit organization based in Philadelphia.
